Camping Tour - Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Swag?

A swag is made from strong canvas, sewn like a large sleeping bag with a comfortable sponge mattress inside providing warmth, comfort and security. You sleep in your sleeping bag inside the swag so its much warmer than a tent!

What are the departure and arrival times?

Tours that start in Alice Springs have a pick up time around 5.30am.

Tours that start in Uluru have a choice of pick up times as follows:

  • 12noon at the Outback Pioneer at Ayers Rock Resort
  • 12:45pm from Ayers Rock (Uluru) airport between Oct-Mar
  • 12:45pm and 2pm from Ayers Rock (Uluru) airport between Apr-Sep

Tour ending times depend on which tour and where you select to be dropped off. This could be Ayers Rock (Uluru) Airport, Resort or your Alice Springs Accommodation. In most cases you arrive back into Alice around 5:30pm, and back into Uluru before midday.

Can I Bring My Family?

Yes. Children aged 8 years and over are welcome on our tour. Children rates apply for ages 8-15.

What fitness level is required?

A real spirit of adventure and a medium level of fitness is required. There is a lot to see over the 3 days and this tour can be fast paced at times. It is important to note that Central Australia experiences extreme weather conditions during summer. Participation is required from passengers on our camping tours for things such as meal preparation and firewood collection (as requested by guide).

What amenities are at the campsites?

All our campsites have hot showers and toilets, screened kitchens with electricity to charge cameras or phones. We also have permanent 4 share safari tents at our Uluru & Kings Creek Station campgrounds.

What should I bring on tour?

Travel voucher, 2 x 1.5 litres of water (per person), sleeping bag (can be hired for $20/person), strong non-slip walking shoes, hat (wide brimmed is best), fly net, sunglasses, sunscreen, toiletries, torch (flash light), swim wear(warmer months), towel, camera, casual and comfortable clothing (cool, light clothing is best in summer and warm clothing for winter), travel pillow, a small overnight bag (please leave your luggage at your Alice Springs accommodation due to space limitations on the mini-bus).

How many people are on each tour?

We have a maximum of 24 passengers on camping tours. Participation is required from passengers on our camping tours for things such as meal preparation and firewood collection (as requested by guide).
